The engine is completely new and designed for world-wide markets. It is manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio, in the USA. In Europe it is fitted in the Ford Mondeo, and in the Contour/Mystique in the USA. It is installed transversely in the Mondeo. It is coupled with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The 2.5L Duratec V6 engine went on sale in Europe in September 1994. The name “Duratec – VE” is derived from Durable Technique V Engine. It was initially installed in the flagship version of the Mondeo and was intended to keep Ford a front runner in the competitive high quality V6 engine market, particularly in Germany
Maximum power of this engine is 125kW at 6250rpm with a maximum torque of 220Nm at 4250rpm.
