Ricardo have developed an advanced single cylinder research engine incorporating the most advanced technology currently available, including a variety of high pressure common rail fuel systems, electronically controlled EGR and variable inlet swirl. The design protects for future requirements, such as cylinder pressures up to 200 bar, and new advances in technology, for example VVA systems and camless valve actuation.

As standard the package also provides an open ECU, laptop with controller software, wiring harness and on engine sensors. For academia institutions the laptop comes with a Ricardo WAVE licence (node locked) and a validated model of the engine which allows students to build, validate and develop a 1D engine and gas dynamics model that can be trialled in real time on the test bed.
Optional high speed data logging instrumentation such as a crank nose encoder, in cylinder pressure sensor and high pressure fuel rail sensor can be added. Ricardo can also provide a turn key solution for a test bed facility.
