As part of Ricardo’s xEV benchmarking activities, a 2013MY Tesla Model S 60 (60kWh) was purchased and subjected to a full vehicle analysis. Tesla benchmarking package includes a detailed and dimensioned 3D CAD model of the battery module plus our powertrain benchmarking overview report. 

Battery Module CAD Data

The battery module was dimensioned and the data collected was used to generate a representative 3D CAD model that contains:

  • Cylindrical 18650 Cells
  • Cell Spacers in their Correct Orientation
  • Module Covers and Casing
  • Module Control Unit
  • Cooling Channel
  • Current Collectors

Benchmarking Overview

The electric powertrain was analyzed and compiled into a report that covers the following:

  • Selected vehicle features
  • High voltage battery pack design
  • Enclosures
  • Thermal system
  • Battery module
  • Battery cell
  • Battery management system •High voltage junction box
  • Motor and motor controller (inverter) module
  • Charging system & DC-DC converter


All CAD models have been independently developed, and without aid from the associated vehicle or battery manufacturers.

Models have been developed through component teardown investigations and are intended to provide a detailed view of packaging and layout of components in a spatially correct CAD model. 

These models are not intended to facilitate hardware builds of the displayed modules and Ricardo neither implies nor provides warranty/ guarantees as to the functionality of such designs.
